KUCHING: Construction of the Batang Rambungan Bridge, a major component of the Sarawak Coastal Road Project, is progressing steadily with overall physical completion reaching 64.95%.

The bridge is now expected to be fully completed and opened to the public by the end of 2026, ahead of the original target of May 2027.

Sarawak Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (Infrastructure Development), Datuk Ir. Aidel Lariwoo, described the project’s progress as encouraging despite earlier technical challenges.

The 560-metre cable-stayed bridge, designed with nine cables on each pylon, will serve as a key landmark and vital connection along the Sempadi–Lundu route under the Sarawak Coastal Road Project.

Progress is expected to accelerate in the coming months, particularly after the arrival of critical structural components such as the bridge cables. With the completion of major works including pylons and deck installation, the bridge may become operational as early as November or December 2026.

The Batang Rambungan Bridge is anticipated to play an important role in improving regional mobility, supporting economic activity, and strengthening Sarawak’s coastal transport network.
