ACCELERATING TRANSFORMATION OF

OIL PALM SECTOR TO BE SUSTAINABLE

Dato Chris fully supports the government’s initiative of introducing the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) Certification Scheme. This scheme is in response to global issues related to climate change and deforestation, which covers oil palm plantations, independent and organised smallholdings, and palm oil processing facilities to be certified against the requirements of the MSPO Standards.

The MSPO Certification programme, first launched in 2015, addresses the environmental, and socioeconomic aspects of palm oil production.  It is globally recognised and accepted as an indicator of quality and strict enforcement of sustainable plantation practices.
GOSB embraces the initiatives by MSPO standards to address the emerging environmental issues of climate change and deforestation. The initiatives are as follows:

1. Prevent deforestation

2. Reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions

3. Strict guidance on peatland plantings

4. Emphasizing conservation needs

GO achieved full MSPO Certification in 2019 and has maintained that status until today.
